Women who run with the wolves
contacting the power of the wild woman
writen by Clarissa Pinkola Estes
Ballantine books , 1992 best seller in the USA
and there is an arabic translated volume المجلس الاعلى للثقافة by Mostafa Mahomoud Mohammed 2002
A great feminine book , which i consider a wave started with the early sparks of renaissance . Considering scientific psychiatric issues with females . So , even the writer has that fancy literitural way , the book is like a recipe for a female psychiatric patient by a psychiatrist , and that appears so clear in the ending chapter of the book which is called " The story as a medicine " . Still the style of the book reminds with " The arabic nights " ( alf lela w lela ) , " The shahnama " , " The mahabaharata & Ramayana " , and all eastern mythological books , may be this was influenced by the mixed mexican and hungarian origins of the wirter , but it's sure that she was inspired by the spirits of the stories . The book analyses some ready well-known stories taken from heritage of ancient communities all over the world and consider its personalities , animals , objects and even incidents as a symbols for components of a woman ( or even the reader's ) psyche .
Through its whole 15 chapters and introduction it even suggests that every mythological story passed throught phases during time adding and deleting parts according to the psychology of women across time , hence it also suggests that women r always the story tellers .
So , the book introduces these stories again to women to get wisdom and healthy psyche through the stories . It collects the whole idea in the " wild woman " demanding every woman to retrieve her wildness . Revising stories like " The skeleton woman " , " Bluebeard " , " The ugly duckling " , " The magical carpet " , " the red shoe " , " Little match-seller " , " The three golden hairs " , " The mermaid " , many stories of the greek mythology and even stories and life expreiments told by patients of the writer as she is still practicing psychiatry , applying the factors of the story on the psyche of a woman in a Jungian way ( as the writer is a Carl Jung follower in analyses ) .
