I
First Night
Last night,
We didn't make love,
I curled under the dull sheets,
And you… you smoked a cigarette
And the heat coming through it
Drew a carless whisper.
And I asked
" how can you sing to a broken heart"
Mumbles came out of your mouth,
From between those lips i used to drink
Till I dance
" shattered hearts, can't be mended"
You are miles away,
Though on the other end of the bed,
You turn your back to the open window,
Look into my eyes
With no words
You take my old jacket
That with weaved buttons
I scream
" Not my nana's jacket"
" In 7 springs, you'll get it back"
II
After 3 springs
On the breakfast table,
I sigh towards… No where,
You sip my tears,
And drown a biscuit in your mouth,
I sting your arm
With a golden fork
You roll your eyes
Then grin and leave
III
After 5 springs
I shatter all the plates around,
Misplace all the food you need
Drowsy as you're
You turn your head
Where I stand
Waiting for a signal
They come,
Bird after bird
I put on the jacket but missing a button
Yet, I fly away.
